To Peace", Ottawa, October 20, 2003:
"I am deeply grateful to the Canadian Islamic Congress for awarding me the 2003
Peace Prize. I treasure this moment because it gives me an opportunity to
discuss our shared values for peace. I pay my respects to Islam because it
seeks peace through the pursuit of human rights, economic equity, and social
justice. Indeed the Koran regards social justice as a necessary prerequisite
for authentic peace. You and I are one in this common understanding."
